Sam Rockwell won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor Sunday night for his work in the dark comedy "Three Billboards Outside of Ebbing, Missouri."

Director Christopher Nolan's World War II picture "Dunkirk" also scored awards early in the evening for Best Sound Mixing and Best Sound Editing.

The romantic fantasy "The Shape of Water" -- which went into the competition with a leading 13 nominations -- won the prize for Best Production Design, while the Winston Churchill biopic
"Darkest Hour" earned the honor for Best Makeup and Hairstyling, and "Phantom Thread" won for Best Costume Design.

"Icarus" was named Best Documentary Feature.
