Comedian Cedric the Entertainer is planning to return to U.S. television through a new development deal with ABC and Touchstone Pictures.

The 42-year-old comedian, who last appeared on television in Fox's "Cedric the Entertainer Presents," is said to developing a new half-hour sitcom pilot with the sibling studios as part of his new talent holding deal, Daily Variety reported.

The comedian, whose full name is Cedric Antonio Kyles, had been focusing his career on film recently with roles in two "Barbershop" pictures and a role opposite actress Lucy Liu in the upcoming film, "The Cleaner."

Yet now Kyles will take on the role of a single father attempting to juggle a busy job and a teenage daughter with the new comedy pilot, that will be written by the creator of "The Bernie Mac Show," Larry Wilmore.

Daily Variety said that Wilmore has been keeping busy in the TV industry since "Bernie" went off the air earlier this year by acting as a consultant to NBC's "The Office."
