Pixar explores the Land of the Dead in first trailer for 'Coco'

UPI News Service, 03/16/2017

Music and magic come together in the first trailer for Pixar's latest animated feature titled "Coco."

The clip, released Wednesday, follows the young Miguel (Anthony Gonzalez) as he learns to play the guitar by idolizing his hero Ernesto de la Cruz (Benjamin Bratt.)

Dreaming of becoming a musician himself, Miguel visits the grave of Cruz during Mexican holiday Day of the Dead and borrows the deceased star's signature guitar.

Suddenly, Miguel is transported to the magical Land of the Dead where he will meet his relatives and the learn truth behind his family's ban on music.

"Desperate to prove his talent, Miguel finds himself in the stunning and colorful Land of the Dead following a mysterious chain of events," reads the synopsis.

"Along the way, he meets charming trickster Hector (voice of Gael Garcia Bernal), and together, they set off on an extraordinary journey to unlock the real story behind Miguel's family history."

Directed by Lee Unkrich ("Toy Story 3"), co-directed by Adrian Molina (story artist "Monsters University"), "Coco" is set to arrive in theaters Nov. 22.
