Australia natives, actress Nicole Kidman and country music star Keith Urban, are engaged to be married, People magazine reported.

Kidman confirmed the engagement to the magazine Monday during the 30th anniversary gala for the United Nations Development Fund for Women, or UNIFAM, in New York.

"He's actually my fiance," Kidman said of Urban, her date to the event. "I wouldn't be bringing my boyfriend."

Kidman has been sporting a diamond engagement ring since November, but until now neither star would comment on what the ring signified.

Kidman is a goodwill ambassador for UNIFAM, which works to empower women politically and economically.

Kidman, who is taking her first UNIFAM sponsored to trip this summer to India, said she became involved with the program after a tip from her mother in Australia.

"My mother heard a program on the BBC about what they were doing in Cambodia, and she taped it," Kidman told People. "She knew I was looking for something that I can get behind. She told me about the work they were doing, they were giving choices to women. They were doing something rather than just saying, oh this is so dire."
