Police in Alabama said they arrested a woman who had her 13-year-old daughter ride in a cardboard box fastened to the top of her van with a coat hanger.
Albertville Police Sgt. Jamie Smith said Jackie Denise Knott, 37, of Albertville, Ga., was pulled over Sunday on U.S. 431 by officers responding to reports of a cardboard box atop a minivan with a child inside, The Huntsville (Ala.) Times reported Tuesday.
Smith said Knott told police the girl was riding in the box because it "was too big to go inside the van, and she would be able to hold it down if she was inside the box."
Police asked Knott if she was concerned for the safety of the girl and the woman told them the box was secured to the car with a coat hanger.
Knott was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child. Her daughter was turned over to a relative.
