"Saturday Night Live" alumnus Molly Shannon is in final talks to star in Mike White's latest film, "The Year of the Dog."

White, who is Jack Black's Partner in Black and White Productions, not only wrote the script but will be making his directorial debut, The Hollywood Reporter said Wednesday.

White, whose credits include "School of Rock," "The Good Girl" and "Nacho Libre," said he wrote "The Year of the Dog" especially for Shannon.

The story is about a secretary who lives alone with her dog and what happens to her when her beloved pet dies, The Reporter said.

White and Shannon previously worked together on his Fox TV series, "Cracking Up."
