The 46-year-old actress and television personality announced the news on Monday's episode of the "Rickey Smiley Morning Show" following part one of the Season 8 reunion Sunday.
"It feels more like Brett Favre and the Jets, you know, one and done," she said of the NFL star's single season with the team. "I think about, too, at the beginning of the season, what did my momma say? 'Get in and get out.' Listen to your momma."
"It was for the experience," she explained. "It was to be able to do a genre that I'd been asked to do before and finding a way to do that made sense for my team and I and the family. Overall, it was a really great experience."
Fields joined "The Real Housewives of Atlanta" in Season 8 and clashed with Kenya Moore during her time on the show. The Bravo series will air part two of the reunion special March 27 at 8 p.m. ET, with part three to follow April 3.
Fields made the announcement just hours before making her debut on "Dancing with the Stars" Season 22 on Monday night. She is partnered with Sasha Farber on the ABC reality competition and scored a 20 with her first dance, a cha-cha to "Sax" by Fleur East.
Fields is known for playing Dorothy "Tootie" Ramsey on "The Facts of Life" and Regine Hunter on "Living Single." She has since appeared in the TV movie "For Better or For Worse," and shares 8-year-old Sebastian and 2-year-old Quincy with husband Christopher Morgan.
