"While we have enjoyed seven very loving, loyal and happy years of marriage, after much soul-searching we have decided to separate," the Project Runway host and her husband said in a statement released to People.

Despite their breakup after seven years of marriage, the parents of four children Leni, 7, Henry, 6, Johan, 5, and Lou, 2, said they will continue to put their children first.

"We have had the deepest respect for one another throughout our relationship and continue to love each other very much, but we have grown apart. This is an amicable process and protecting the well-being of our children remains our top priority, especially during this time of transition," added Klum and Seal, who wed in Mexico in May 2005.

"We thank our family, friends, and fans for their kind words of support. And for our children's sake, we appreciate you respecting our privacy."

Klum, 38, and Seal, 48, choosing to call their relationship quits apparently took a couple of the fashion icon's friends by surprise.

"All this is just shocking to me," Niche Media founder Jason Binn told People. "I've only seen them as the most loving couple."

"It has to be something major," another source said. "They have four kids together, and they've always been very committed to making it work."

The supermodel and singer began dating in 2003 and got engaged in December of the following year.
