The legendary musician spoke about his disdain for the practice, how he once called out Madonna for lip-synching and how disappointed he is in Jackson in an interview with Rolling Stone.
"I say what I feel," the 68-year-old performer said. "I probably went too far with Madonna [publicly calling her out for lip-synching], and I got very personal and I wrote her " she was very gracious."
"You know, [expletive] music magazines writing a review of Janet Jackson saying, 'This is the greatest show " 4 1/2 stars.' It's [expletive] lip-synched! Hello! That's not a show!," he continued. "I'd rather go and see a drag queen."
Jackson is on her "Unbreakable" world tour, which was put on hold in December due to an undisclosed health issue.
John and Jackson previously worked together on the 1999 hit "I know the Truth."
In the Rolling Stone interview, John also discusses being rejected by his record label, feuding with his mother and why he originally had a falling out with Billy Joel due to public comments John made about his drinking problem.
"He's one of the great American songwriters. But I know when people used to say to me, 'You're wasting your life,' I'd go, [expletive] off!' and I wouldn't speak to them for two years," John said. "Billy was pissed [about my public comments], and I understand. But does it mean I don't love him? No, of course not."
