U.S. pop star Britney Spears and her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, had their first Parenting Without Conflict class Wednesday, Usmagazine.com reported.

The session took place at the Beverly Hills Hotel in Los Angeles.

The court-appointed class was expected to last a couple of hours, during which the former spouses were scheduled to meet with a parenting coach and discuss how a divorced couple should raise children, TMZ.com said.

The entertainment Web site added toddlers Sean and Jayden are not supposed to be present for these sessions.

"Britney is actually really excited about seeing Kevin," a source told Us. "She sees this as the first step in them getting along for the sake of the kids."

Spears and Federline are scheduled to appear in court Friday.

Federline has physical custody of the children, while Spears has been granted monitored visits with the boys.
