Actress Nikki Sanderson will end her 6-year gig as a ditzy weathergirl wannabe in the British soap opera "Coronation Street" to launch a pop career.

Sanderson's character, Candice Stowe, will be written out of Britain's longest-running soap opera this fall.

"I am really sad to be going because I will miss everybody," Sanderson told the London Daily Mail. "I am excited about what the future holds and I'd like to thank everybody for the fantastic opportunities I have been given."

Producer Tony Wood said Sanderson, one of the ITV show's most popular actresses, has been a "real asset" and wished her well in her pop career.

Sanderson, 21, was dealt one recent setback, though, when "Coronation Street" cut her on-screen and off-screen boyfriend Danny Young from the soap opera.
