The owners of Betfair got suspicious after noticing huge wagers made on winners minutes before they were announced live on television, the Daily Mirror reported Wednesday. After their own investigation, they called police who arrested the alleged five-man ring.

It is believed the inside information came from someone with access to phone vote totals for shows such "The X Factor," "Strictly Dancing," "Big Brother" and "Hell's Kitchen," the newspaper said.

Betfair lost 105,000 pounds ($186,000) to the five-man ring, the Mirror said.
