British actress Leslie Ash has won nearly $10 million in an out-of-court settlement from the hospital where she contracted a dangerous infection.

The former "Men Behaving Badly" and "Merseybeat" actress came down with Methicillin-Sensitive Staphylococcus Aureus after seeking treatment at London's Chelsea and Westminster hospital for a punctured lung and two cracked ribs she sustained by falling off her bed onto a table, The Scotsman reported.

The amount Ash is expected to be paid within a month is based on what she was earning at the time of her 2004 illness and what she might have earned in the future, the newspaper said.

Hospital officials have apologized to the actress, and said they reviewed and improved their procedures in the wake of the incident.
