Barry Gibb working with Universal on Bee Gees stage musical

UPI News Service, 11/11/2017

Universal Theatrical Group says it has reached an agreement with Barry Gibb, Yvonne Gibb and the Estate of Robin Gibb to develop a stage musical about the iconic pop group the Bee Gees.

Brothers Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb founded the band and were huge music stars in the 1960s and '70s, thanks to hits such as "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart," "Too Much Heaven," "How Deep is Your Love," "Night Fever," "Nights On Broadway," "You Should Be Dancing" and "Stayin' Alive."

Maurice died from complications of a twisted intestine in 2003 at the age of 53, and surviving siblings Barry and Robin retired the group's name after 45 years, reuniting briefly on stage before Robin died of cancer in 2012 at the age of 62.

"This is a wonderful opportunity for our family," Barry Gibb -- who is serving as an executive producer on the project -- said in a statement Wednesday.

"I'm personally very excited to be a part of the creative process along with Yvonne and Dwina. It's another adventure for us and a chance to throw the spotlight on all my brothers and finally the real story of us will be told. It's an honor to be working alongside the people I most respect. I can't wait to get started!"
