Amy Adams is to star in the small-screen adaptation of Gillian Flynn's 2006 novel "Sharp Objects." The casting of the "American Hustle" and "Man of Steel" actress was confirmed Friday by The Hollywood Reporter. To be directed by Jean-Marc Vallee, the project is being shopped to cable and streaming outlets by Entertainment One and Blumhouse Productions. Marti Noxon will serve as the series' showrunner. Adams will play Camille Preaker a reporter, with a history of mental illness, assigned to cover the murders of two preteen girls in her hometown. Flynn's book "Gone Girl" is a bestselling mystery that was adapted as a blockbuster 2014 film.
