George Clooney is to receive the 46th American Film Institute Life Achievement Award.

The prize is scheduled to be presented to the 56-year-old actor and filmmaker -- who is also the married, father of infant twins -- at a gala tribute on June 7 in Los Angeles.

The event will be televised on TNT at a later date.

Clooney's credits include the TV shows "ER," "The Facts of Life" and "Roseanne," the "Ocean's 11" trilogy and films "O, Brother, Where Art Thou?" "Michael Clayton," "Up in the Air," "The Descendants," "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind" and "Good Night, and Good Luck."
