America's Next Top Model 6 - Episode 12 Summary

'Jaded' By Belinda Trotter-James
Original Airdate: May 17, 2006

Thank Goodness, they did not make the finale into a two-hour fluff special.  The suspense would have killed us all.  Who will win the title of America’s Next Top Model?  Will it be the preacher’s daughter, Joanie, the self-proclaimed supermodel, Jade or the southern country girl, Danielle?   Let’s get through this recap.

All the girls have come a long way in their development as top models.  I’m not too sure about Jade. She still seems to have the same funky attitude when someone tries to school her on modeling techniques.  The girls know that the remaining challenges will make or break their chances of winning the title of Top Model.  Mr. Jay delivers envelops to the girls, which contains scripts for a CoverGirl commercial.  The girls must memorize the scripts and be ready to shoot the next day.

As the girls get ready for hair and makeup, Danielle tries not to worry about her accent, Joanie tries not to worry about her new teeth getting in the way and Jade is not worried at all.  Joanie goes first and nails the commercial as well as her CoverGirl photo shoot.  Jade is next and she cannot remember her lines so she makes up her own lines.  Mr. Jay told her that it was not acceptable and made her shoot over and over again.  It got so bad that Jay brought in cue cards for Jade to read.  That did not make the shoot any easier because Jade could not read the cue cards and made up her own words again.  Finally, she nailed it.  Her photo shoot went well but the photographer had to tell her several times to not look like a diva and tone it down.

The elimination process was quick and easy.  Tyra called Joanie’s name first which left Jade and Danielle.  Jade stands before Tyra because her attitude still sucks.  In addition, Danielle stands before Tyra because of her southern accent.  Who goes home?   Jade.

In Jade’s exit interview, she felt that the judges did not understand her humbleness.  “My look is in a different realm that people cannot handle,” states Jade.  Then she reads a poem that she wrote for this special exit occasion that basically told everyone to kiss her butt.  Okay, maybe not her butt… maybe her hand.  Oh goodness, I feel a commercial break with Dalia coming….

“This will be a short commercial….  What is wrong with Jade?  Her attitude is bigger than life itself and she still does not get it.  Her exit speech shows that she is a bitch in training like that Amorosa person from the Apprentice TV show.  I don’t know if anyone will want to work with her in the future.  Maybe she can be a character on VH1’s Surreal Life.  She claims to be humble but she is fake because she does not know that she is cutting off her own blessing with her negative energy.  Her mother did an energy healing on her… What happened?  Good-bye, Jade. The shows energy feels much better now that you’re gone.  Back to the recap.”

And now there are two…. Danielle, the southern country girl and Joanie, the preacher’s daughter.  In their last challenge, both girls will be participating in a huge fashion show for designer Roj Singhakul.  “This is the best runway show in Top Model history,” says Mr. Jay.  The girls will not be on an elevated stage.  They will be at eye level with the audience.  The audience will see the good, the bad and all the stumbles. This will also be an afternoon show where the temperature will reach 99 degrees.  “It’s a long, long runway and you don’t want to show the audience that you are hot and tired,” says mama Tyra.

Danielle and Joanie both want the title so bad that they can taste it.  Whomever the judges choose, I am sure everyone will agree because both are winners.  It should be a tie because both have grown and consistently taken great photos to be their first time in a professional setting.  The moment has arrived as the girls get ready for a major fashion show which will determine who will win the title and the $100,000 contract with CoverGirl cosmetics.  Danielle is on the runway and doing a fantastic job.  Her walk is slow, steady and not too exciting.  “You can’t walk that slow,” instructs Mr. Jay as Danielle prepares for her next outfit.  Next out is Joanie who keeps looking at the ground as though she was looking to avoid a pebble or something not to fall over.  That’s not good. The judges and the audience are looking at every little move.  This has to be the hardest elimination in Top Model history.  It would be great if Danielle was last cycle’s winner and Joanie could be this cycle’s winner.  That’s how good both girls are this time around.

At the deliberation, the judges felt that Danielle has a stronger presence than Joanie.  Tyra felt that Joanie could change her looks and moods for every photo. “That is a trait that a top model should have,” states Tyra.  However, Joanie’s runway walk is not as strong as Danielle’s runway walk.  Who do you choose, Dalia?  “Joanie has what it takes to be a model.  She is the entire package.  However, you cannot be mad at anyone winning.  Joanie is flawless but so is Danielle.”

The judges make their decision and America’s Next Top Model is…..DANIELLE!

Instead of comparing Joanie to Danielle, I will compare Danielle to Adrienne, cycle one’s winner.  In episode nine, I made an observation.  Here is an excerpt of what I wrote… “The girls had their first Thai lesson but Danielle was not feeling very well.  She had been suffering with a migraine all day.  After the Thai lesson, we see someone carrying Danielle to a van to take her to the hospital.  Danielle said her entire body was numb and she was shaking all over.  This reminds me of cycle one when Adrienne was rushed to the hospital, missed one of challenges because of her illness, and left the hospital to make the elimination ceremony and won the competition.  Do you think we will see this happen to Danielle?  When a tremendous blessing comes, there are all types of tests to see if you can weather the storm.  Danielle has had a sprained ankle and now she has a little food poisoning, dehydration and exhaustion.”

When challenges come your way… watch out… There will be a tremendous blessing to follow.  Congratulations to Danielle.  Dalia and I have enjoyed bringing you weekly recaps of Top Model and I hope you enjoyed reading them.  Until next cycle, have a great summer.
