America's Next Top Model 5 - Episode 7 Summary

'The 'Pinup' Episode' By Isabelle Murray
Original Airdate: October 26, 2005

The episode starts off with super-corrupted-girl (Jayla) and super-frizzy-girl (Nik) that each explain why they are upset with the other and such things.  Super-corrupted-girl sounded like a bitch once again.

Tyra arrives at the house.  She invites the girls for a little outing.  She explains that she used to take pictures with her friends all the time.  This photo shoot is very simple, it will be black and white pictures, and Tyra will be directing them.  Tyra instructs them on how to pose and how to keep it simple, etc.  Everyone seems to be doing very well.  Tyra turns to the photographer at the end of the photo shoot and exclaims how it doesn’t necessarily take all the hoopla to make a good photo shoot.

Back at the house, the girls have Tyra mail.  Super-kitty-girl (Nicole) has the mail in her hands but they are all waiting for two of the girls before reading it.  However, suddenly, a hyper super-kitty-girl screams and says, “You’re all going to Paris!  Oh my God!”  The girls start to stare at each other in disbelief and one asks to see the mail and it was not true.  It was a funny moment.  The real Tyra mail said, “Are you a diamond in the rough?”  The girls are very puzzled by this very succinct mail.

That evening, we see super-Twiggy-like-girl (Kim) and super-Dairy-Queen-girl (Kyle) talking and the latter says that, when she left home for college, she went wherever her boyfriend decided to go.  So, super-Twiggy-like-girl says that she shouldn’t have changed her life around the guy because that’s nuts and you should do things for yourself, not for others.  We see that super-corrupted-girl (Jayla) was listening and then we see her commenting on camera on how super-Dairy-Queen-girl doesn’t sound all that intelligent.  Ooh, honey!  You start to sound like a bitch!

The next morning, the girls go to this place where they are met with this guy and he explains that they will have to do this obstacle course.  The girls change and then super-clueless-girl (Lisa) (who looked very excited while the guy was giving his explanations) is first.  The obstacle course looks like a boot camp thing, complete with some mud.  So, they have to crawl on their bellies in this mud and then they have to turn on their backs and do some more awkward crawling.  The guy explains that the main goal of this exercise is to get the girls as dirty as possible.  Super-kitty-girl (Nicole) really did not enjoy the experience.  The funny part was when it was super-frizzy-girl’s (Nik) turn:  her pants kept falling off her behind so they had to blur her shots quite a number of times.  But she was a very good sport and did the whole thing even with the equipment difficulties.

After the obstacle course, the girls have cryptic Tyra mail.  They go into the limousine and they arrive at the office of Elle Magazine.  The girls are sent one by one in front of a panel of three members of the Elle Magazine staff; they start off by saying that this is like a go-see and that they want to see their inside personality.  The first girl that we see is super-cheese-girl (Bre) who says, upon hearing this, that they will indeed see her personality because they can’t go on looks for that one!  So, each girl is interviewed by the panel and each has to walk and polaroids are taken.  This is the real challenge.  The winner will get a super prize:  some time alone with industry expert Todd Hallman.  Each girl gets her evaluation:

• Super-clueless-girl (Lisa):  she had energy from the moment that she walked in and the panel liked that a lot.

• Super-corrupted-girl (Jayla):  she was stressed and tense and shy.  She has to work on that.

• Super-cheese-girl (Bre) was confident in her interview but her pictures did not show the same level of confidence.

• Super-frizzy-girl (Nik) did not have enough energy.

• Super-kitty-girl (Nicole) played the all-American-girl role but that works for her, as it makes her definitely relatable.

• Super-Twiggy-like-girl (Kim):  the panel liked her because she is different but they would have liked to see a bit more versatility in her.

• Super-Dairy-Queen-girl (Kyle) needs to work on her range of expressions, as usual.

So, the winner of the challenge was super-clueless-girl (Lisa).  The girls go back home and start taking showers.  Super-corrupted-girl (Jayla) does not seem to want to take a shower or something and super-Twiggy-like-girl (Kim) says that it’s gross.

Anyway, next, we see super-clueless-girl (Lisa) going to meet Todd Hallman.  He makes her wear this gown and watches her walk and gives her advice.  He also tells her that flawless skin is super important.  Super-clueless-girl says that, of course, this will give her a little edge over the other girls but she’s not complaining!

That evening, they have Tyra mail again.  It talked about walking a fine line between sexy and sleazy.  Oooooooookay…  The next morning, they are met by super-makeup-dude (Jay Manuel) who explains that the girls will be doing a photo shoot for the Ford Fusion and that the girls will be dressed as 40s pinups.  He asks if anyone knows what he’s talking about and super-clueless-girl (Lisa) says, “Like Vargas girls.”  Super-makeup-dude is pleased that, for once, a girl knows a reference.  So, the girls will be wearing corsets and will need to be ultra feminine.  The winner of America’s Next Top Model will have this picture actually featured as a real ad.

Super-Twiggy-like-girl (Kim) is very nervous about the shoot as she is not that feminine and has been struggling to let it come forth.

Among the noteworthy girls, super-kitty-girl (Nicole) is struggling quite a bit at first, to the point where super-makeup-dude (Jay Manuel) asks if she’s alive.  Super-kitty-girl says that her corset is too tight and she’s about to faint.  Super-makeup-dude explains to her that she can say to the photographer “One moment.” and take one moment to pause.  Super-Twiggy-like-girl (Kim), much to her surprise, does really well.  Super-makeup-dude gives her praise because this has been the sexiest that they have seen her so far.  Super-frizzy-girl (Nik) manages to do well but is very disappointed when she hears super-makeup-dude say that she struggled at first.  She hoped that she had done well from the beginning because she needs all the shots that she can get.  Super-cheese-girl (Bre) really struggled with the corset.  She really had a hard time breathing and it was just plain hard for her.
