Jose Galang "Sway" Penala (born c.1977 in the Philippines) was a contestant on the fifth season of American Idol. He attended La Salle Greenhills, in Mandaluyong, Philippines before his family migrated to the United States, in 1989, settling down in South San Francisco, California.

He started singing at the age of seven, in 1984.

Penala auditioned in San Francisco with "Superstar" and advanced to the consequent Hollywood round, receiving positive feedback from all three judges.

Sway made it into the Top 24.
