Sarah Close (born 27 April 1995) is a British singer-songwriter and YouTuber from the Isle of Wight. She originally gained popularity posting covers of songs on YouTube. Her first single, "Call me Out," was released on 3 March 2017 and her debut Extended Play, "Caught Up", is due to be released on 14 April 2017.

Life and career

Born and raised on the Isle of Wight, Close grew up in a musical family with her parents being part of a covers band on the island. Initially averse to following in her parents' footsteps, Close didn't consider going into music until 2009, soon after which she started posting covers on YouTube following encouragement from a friend. Close attended the Ryde School where she completed her A-levels in Biology, English Literature, and Spanish.

At eighteen, Close moved to London to attend the The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance to study music and songwriting. In May 2015, Close dropped out of university due to increased demand for her to be working on music outside of her courses and coursework. She was initially slated to release an EP in September 2015 however following a realization that her manager wasn't the right fit for her and her music, the EP was delayed indefinitely.

Meanwhile, Close's covers on YouTube were garnering acclaim online and her YouTube account surpassed 500,000 subscribers in March 2016, and as of 6 March 2017 she has more than 723,000 subscribers on the site. She also collaborated on covers with artists Conor Maynard and Dodie Clark. She played a number of shows and festivals including Bestival and VidCon.

Caught Up

In February 2017, Close announced the release of her first single, "Call me Out," released on March 3, 2017 as well as her debut EP, "Caught Up," which will be released April 14, 2017. With this news Close also announced the creation of her own label, The Kodiak Club. On the creation of her own label Close tweeted that she always wanted her own record label to allow more creative control and that she wanted to make something that people could feel they were a part of, which is where the name Kodiak comes from, a title of one of Close's songs.

Influences

Some of Close's influences include Joni Mitchell, Fleetwood Mac, Haim, Gabrielle Aplin, Bastille, Bronto, John Martin, Jonny Cash, and The Kooks. She has stated that she likes having mixed influences so that there are a lot of different sounds in her original music.

Personal life

Close currently resides with fellow YouTuber Charlie Cameron, known as MyNamesChai on Youtube, in London, England. Close has been in a relationship with popular YouTuber Callum McGinley, or Callux, for 3 years. She has a number of food allergies.
