Honey Bee Information

Honey Bee (Malayalam: ??? ??) is a 2013 Malayalam romantic comedy film written and directed by Lal Junior (Jean Paul Lal), son of actor-director Lal (Paul Michael) and produced by Sibi Thottupuram and Joby Mandamattom. The film stars Asif Ali, Bhavana, Baburaj, Sreenath Bhasi, Archana Kavi, Balu and Lal in lead roles.

The movie revolves around two friends (Sebastian and Angel) who suddenly discover their love for each other. They elope on the eve of the girl's marriage much to the chagrin of her brothers. The film essays their and the lovers' struggle for survival. The shooting of the film started on 15 May and was released on 7 June, 2013.

Plot

Sebastian(Asif Ali), Abu(Sreenath Bhasi), Ambrose Perera(Balu), Fernandez de Silva(Baburaj), Angel(Bhavana) and Sara(Archana Kavi) are members of a music band based in Fort Kochi. They share a very deep friendship among them. Sara is the lover of Fernandez de Silva. Angel's brothers HC Michael(Lal), Martin(Amith Chackalakal), Father Cochin(Suresh Krishna) and Antony(Amith Chackalakal) are nicknamed "Punyalanmar" by others. They are very dangerous also. Angel is in love with Sebastian. Meanwhile there is a marriage proposal for Angel with SI George. Her mariage's previous day night Sebastian realizes he also fall in love with Angel. The events that unfold as a result of this proposal weave the plot of the story.

The movie gained postivie reviews from critics. South Cine Arena rated the movie a 3.5/5 and commented "If you are expecting to chill out for 2 hrs,HoneyBee is a perfect choice.There are ample number of situations to make you laugh,thrilled and fall in love.Enjoy this tripping outing" Oneindia.in said, "Jean Paul Lal has chosen a good script, which is interesting. The director has tried to keep you engaged and glued to screen through out the movie. The suspense in the climax is also very interesting and sure to impress youth." Veeyen of Nowrunning.com rated the film 2.5/5 and said, "Honey Bee is a film to be savored like those quickie bites that you grab from a fast food restaurant. Its damn fun while it lasts in your mouth and you swallow it without much of a thought, knowing all the while that it never had plans to offer you something to chew on."

Accusation of plagiarism

Prior to release, the film was speculated to be a rip-off of The Hangover. One of the songs from the movie, was also claimed to be a rip-off of Bob Marley's and Far East Movement's songs.
