Evelyn Ward Biography

Evelyn Ward (May 21, 1923 " December 23, 2012) was an American former actress best known for her television career from the late 1940s through the mid-1960s. She was the mother of actor and teen idol David Cassidy.

Life and career

Ward was born in West Orange, New Jersey, the daughter of Ethel Laurinda (née Wheeler) and Frederick Ward. She is of mostly Colonial American descent, along with smaller amounts of Irish and Swiss. Her ancestors were among the founders of Newark, New Jersey.

She married actor Jack Cassidy on June 28, 1948; the marriage ended in divorce in 1956. Ward and Cassidy had one child together in 1950, a son they named David Bruce Cassidy. In 1962, Ward married Elliott Silverstein. (Ward is sometimes mistaken as the onetime wife of film-director Norman Z. McLeod as well. However, McLeod's wife, also named Evelyn Ward, was born in Iowa between 1900 and 1902.)

Ward worked in television, making appearances on CBS's Manhattan Showcase, The College Bowl, Man from U.N.C.L.E., Ben Casey, Dr. Kildare, Perry Mason, Mike Hammer, The Furthur Adventures of Ellery Queen, and Hallmark Hall of Fame. Her stage work included New Girl in Town, and And So To Bed (with David Cassidy at the LA Theater Center).

She passed away on December 23, 2012 after a long battle with Alzheimer's related dementia.
