WWE Smackdown: Randy Orton and Shinsuke Nakamura team up and punish Zayn and Owens
UPI News Service, 12/06/2017
Randy Orton and Shinsuke Nakamura joined forces Tuesday on Smackdown to deal with the duo of Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn who have been terrorizing the blue brand in recent weeks.
Smackdown was kicked off by Owens and Zayn who began gloating about how they outsmarted commissioner Shane McMahon last week and were able to hand Orton a loss in a No Disqualification match.
The celebration was cut short, however, after The Viper smoothly slid into the ring and nailed Owens with an RKO out of nowhere which sent Zayn into shock.
McMahon then arrived and announced that Zayn would be facing off against Orton on Smackdown with Owens handcuffed at ringside. The boss also said that the best friends would be taking on Orton and a partner of his choosing Dec. 17 at Clash of Champions.
Orton was able to handily deal with Zayn in the main event without Owens able to give him an unfair advantage. Despite Zayn being able to grab a pair of bolt cutters from underneath the ring, Orton avoided his rival's Helluva Kick and quickly pinned Zayn for the victory.
Owens was then able to use the bolt cutters and break free of the handcuffs to begin a two-on-one assault on Orton until Nakamura's music suddenly hit and The Artist rushed over to the ring to even the odds. After a series of Kinshasas and a pair of RKOs, Orton and Nakamura cleared the ring of their adversaries and shook hands, signifying that they would be teaming up again at Clash of Champions.
Backstage, McMahon declared to general manager Daniel Bryan that he would become the special referee in the Owens and Zayn's Tag Team Match and if the best friends lose, they will be fired from the WWE.
Also on Smackdown, the team of Rusev and Aiden English earned an impressive victory over The New Day after English had performed a rendition of "Twelve Days of Rusev."
The win came after English distracted Kofi Kingston long enough for The Bulgarian Brute to kick him in the back of the head to earn the three count.
English and Rusev were then placed into the Smackdown Tag Team Championship match at Clash of Champions which already featured The Usos defending their titles against The New Day and Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin.
Other moments from Smackdown included Bobby Roode defeating United States Champion Baron Corbin after Dolph Ziggler interfered; The Bludgeon Brothers defeating Adam James and Josh Carr; and Smackdown Women's Champion Charlotte Flair defeating Tamina.
