The DogExplorer Web site reports that the world's ugliest dog, Sam, a Chinese crested hairless rescued from a California pound, has died.

Susie Lockheed originally took Sam in for 48 hours. But she fell in love and Sam stayed in her life.

Sam even had his own Web site -- samugliestdog.com -- as well as a blog kept by Lockheed. His fame as winner of several ugliest dog contests led to tee shirts and calendars.

DogExplorer pointed out that Sam's life shows that dogs who are old and ugly deserve homes too. Sam was 10 when he came into Lockheed's life, and she says he brought love and even helped her meet her fiancee.
