A New York woman who was showered with filthy water and rats when her bathroom ceiling gave out has won a $65,000 settlement from her landlord.

The mother of two in her 30s, who asked not to be identified for fear of retaliation from her landlord, said she was taking a shower when the bathroom ceiling collapsed, raining dirty water, debris and five or six rats on her. Two of the rats were dead, said her lawyer, David Lesch.

"They wound up dead in the tub -- maybe they drowned, or maybe they hit headfirst and died from the fall," Lesch told The New York Post.

In her 2002 lawsuit, the woman claims her landlord only repatched the ceiling when she complained of leaks and cracks, when he should have located the leak and repaired it.
