Janet Dumas, in legal papers, says Chad Christensen not only let his dogs run loose in their South Portland neighborhood, but also tried to hide the death of her cat by throwing out the body -- and falsely claimed that the cat, Clyde, had wandered into his yard -- the Portland Oregonian reports.
Attorney John Dumas is representing his mother in the suit.
"I'm not an animal activist, but when it happens to my mother, I become an activist," he told the newspaper.
In a similar suit in May, a jury awarded $56,000 to a family whose neighbor deliberately ran over their dog.
