Woman has been airsick for eight years

UPI News Service, 05/02/2013

A British woman who says she has felt permanently airsick since taking an airplane to Turkey eight years ago has been diagnosed with disembarkment syndrome.

Catherine Bell, 46, of Bellingham, England, said she vacationed in Turkey eight years ago and her airsickness persisted after she got off the plane, The Sun reported Thursday.

"As soon as we landed and I stepped off the plane I felt seriously odd. The whole world had transformed into bouncy castle land and I felt as if I was walking on a giant marshmallow," Bell said.

She said the symptoms persisted with attacks sometimes lasting for months on end.

Doctors were baffled before finally diagnosing her with Mal de Debarquement Syndrome, or disembarkment syndrome, a neurological disorder triggered by travel.

There is no known cure and sufferers only feel relief while in motion.

"At the moment I live in a wibbly-wobbly world, if I stand still or sit down I can see the world swaying slightly. It makes it hard to read or watch TV and I have a constant headache and feel sick," Bell said.
