CBS News White House correspondent John Roberts is moving over to CNN, the Cable News Network announced Wednesday.

Roberts will contribute to programs across the dial, reporting on a variety of stories out of Washington, CNN said.
He spent six years in the White House for CBS and had been considered an early contender to fill Dan Rather's seat at "CBS Nightly News," TVWeek.com reported Wednesday. However, Bob Schieffer was tapped as interim anchor and the network has reportedly been pursuing Katie Couric of NBC's "Today" for the job.
