Bog snorkeling officials say a world record may have been set at the World Championships in Llanwrtyd Wells, Wales.

Dan Morgan of Brecon, Wales, seems to have chopped more than 8 seconds off of the previous time to clinch the title, The Daily Telegraph reported Monday. There was no mention of how or when official confirmation is made.
The sport of bog snorkeling began in 1976 near Llanwrtyd Wells, Wales, as a result of a bar conversation in The Neuadd Arms. The World Bog Snorkeling Championship, first held in 1985, takes place every August bank holiday at the dense Waen Rhydd peat bog.
Contestants must swim 60 yards of a muddy, water-filled peat trench using flippers only -- no swimming strokes allowed -- Britain's Telegraph newspaper said.
Morgan's time of 30.06 seconds comfortably beat 2009's 38.15 seconds set by Conor Murphy.
Morgan may have had some help with the cleaning out of the trench prior to this year's competition and removal of silt and discarded flippers and snorkels, the newspaper said.
