The Citgo station on East Colonial Drive at Old Cheney Highway was shut down after several customers who used the premium fuel pumps complained that their cars were breaking down shortly after fueling, WKMG-TV, Orlando, Fla., reported Wednesday.
The Florida Department of Agriculture confirmed Tuesday that "water and or suspended matter" had been found in the gas at the station.
Mechanic Tony Sarmiento, who worked on motorist Santos Rodriguez's vehicle after it was filled at the station, said the water has a pungent aroma.
"You can see it's mixed with sewer water or something," Sarmiento. "It is brown fluid, some type of sewer water.
"It smelled like a toilet," he said.
Citgo technicians were en route to clean the tank. The business must then receive the state's approval before the pumps can be reactivated.
