David Banh also graduated with a double major, and ended up making a profit on his one year of study because of a number of scholarships and the resale of his textbooks, the Washington Post reported.
He was helped by the fact the public university accepted many of his advanced placement credits from high school although he doubled up on course credits and took physics through the summer to finish his second major.
Banh said he expects to finish his master's degree this academic year, then pursue a doctorate in math or go to law school to become a patent attorney.
He told the Post he's not super competitive but does like to have someone or something against which to compete.
"Everyone needs a little more motivation," he said.
