VH1 Save the Music Foundation to honor actress Julie Andrews

UPI News Service, 09/30/2010

The VH1 Save the Music Foundation says it plans to honor British actress Julie Andrews at its upcoming 2010 gala in New York.

The event is to take place Nov. 8 at Cipriani Wall Street and will feature a special performance by Natasha Bedingfield.

Also expected to be recognized are singers John Legend and John Mayer, as well as The ASCAP Foundation.

The program for the evening will celebrate music as universal language that shapes life stories and will include a special tribute to the 45th anniversary of Rodgers & Hammerstein's "The Sound of Music," in which Andrews starred, organizers said in a news release.

"The VH1 Save The Music Foundation is delighted to honor Julie Andrews at our 2010 Gala," Paul Cothran, executive director of the VH1 Save The Music Foundation, said in a statement Thursday.

"To have the opportunity to celebrate such an incredible talent and individual is a privilege and we are thrilled to have her take part in what will be an unforgettable evening. She joins fellow honorees John Mayer, John Legend and The ASCAP Foundation who have all generously given their time, talent and money to advance the foundation's mission of ensuring that no child be denied the opportunity to receive a complete music education."
