Venezuela to fine cable television stations that air 'Family Guy'

UPI News Service, 09/28/2009

Officials in Venezuela say they will fine cable television stations that persist in airing the edgy U.S. animated comedy series, "Family Guy."

The syndicated show, which was nominated for a best comedy series Emmy this year, frequently uses crude, sexual or drug-themed humor in its episodes.

The BBC quoted Venezuelan Justice Minister Tareck El Aissami as saying the series has been banned in the country because it promotes the use of marijuana.

Last year, Venezuelan networks were warned they couldn't air re-runs of "The Simpsons," also an envelope-pushing animated series from the United States, in early time slots because it was unsuitable for children, the BBC noted.
