Utility company Pepco buys hamster for girl after Petco letter goes astray

Utility company Pepco received an 8-year-old girl's letter intended for pet store Petco and decided to help the girl achieve her wish of owning a hamster.
The D.C.-based Potomac Electric Power Company, more commonly known as Pepco, said it received a letter from 8-year-old Serenity that was meant to be mailed to Petco.
The letter read:
"Dear Petco pets,
I'm Serenity. I'm 8 years old. I live in Washington DC. I'm going to 2nd grade. May I please have a hamester because I never had a pet. I [love] hamesters because they eat carrots, and grass. I will take good care of it because I'll let it eat. I will make sure I clean the cage. If I reseive a hamster, I will do better in school, make more friends, and become responsible."
The letter ended up on the desk of Cornell Reddon, a Pepco customer care worker, and he and coworker Clay Anderson decided to fulfill the girl's request. They said they went to Petco for help, since that was the intended recipient of the letter.
Pepco tweeted photos of employees presenting Serenity with her new hamster, as well as a habitat for the pet and some accessories.
Serenity's mother said a teacher helped the girl look up the address for Petco and they accidentally found Pepco's address instead.
Petco said it was happy to help fulfill Serenity's request. The girl's mother told the company Serenity had been reading up on hamsters and their care for two years in preparation of getting her own pet.
