Updated book lists most popular names

UPI News Service, 10/24/2005

The most popular baby names at the moment are Jacob for boys and Emily for girls.

That's the word from Bruce Lansky, who uses records from the Social Security Administration to keep "The Very Best Baby Name Book" up to date. Other popular names of the day include Joshua, Matthew, Madison (for girls) and Hannah, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports.

Lansky also offers lists for parents who want unusual names. The weird includes Abra, Elvira or Keiko for girls and Boris, Roscoe or Siegfried for boys, while the trendy list offers Britney, Paris, Chanel, Garrett, Bradley and Remington.

There are also the names celebrities picked for their own children, like Scout LaRue, Rumer Glenn and Tallulah Belle, who happen to be the daughters of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore.

Parents should remember that names go into and out of fashion like anything else. There was a time when Ashley was a man's name -- and an uncommon one at that.
