A 24-year old English veterinary nurse set a record with a five-month trek across Australia, making her the first woman to cross the Outback on horseback.

The BBC reported that Anna Hingley from Stourbridge, West Midlands, and her partner John Ostwald began their 2,000-mile trek in Broome, Western Australia.

Their trek raised 4,000 pounds (about $7,640) for Angel Flight, an Outback charity that supports ill families in the Outback by providing transportation to hospitals. A civic reception was held in Cairns, Queensland, where the pair finished their journey, the BBC said.

"Obviously out on those long tracks I've got a lot of time to think and I used to think about what it would be like to arrive in Cairns but it's more than I imagined," Hingley said.

She told the BBC the pair had had good days and bad days. They suffered severe saddle sores and dehydration among the rugged terrain.
