'Today' host Katie Couric mulling her network news options

UPI News Service, 08/01/2005

NBC "Today" show host Katie Couric has a tough decision ahead: stay with the No. 1 morning news show or possibly join CBS's evening news.

Couric's five-year, $13 million per year contract with NBC expires next spring, and she says she plans on making a decision which way to take her career this fall, Zap2it.com reported Monday.

In an article about morning news, Couric told The New Yorker magazine the "Today" job she has held since 1991 is "one of the best jobs in television ... when it's running on all four cylinders."

However, she sparked speculation of a move by adding, "At the same time, everybody needs recharging."

Zap2it.com said CBS reportedly approached Couric about filling the anchor chair left open by the retirement of Dan Rather.
