Tim Bachman found not guilty of sex abuse of underage girl

UPI News Service, 05/02/2013

Tim Bachman, co-founder of Canadian rock band Bachman-Turner Overdrive, was found not guilty of sex abuse of an underage girl a decade ago.

Stacy Bohun, now 24, had alleged Bachman, 61, groped her when she was a preteen foster child in his home in British Columbia's Fraser Valley.

She went to police in 2009 and Bachman was charged the following year.

British Columbia Supreme Court Justice Neill Brown ruled Bohun's testimony unreliable because of inconsistent statements over the years.

"I did not find Ms. Bohun was a deliberately dishonest witness," Brown said, but ruled her statements were not enough to convict Bachman.

The guitarist-vocalist started the 1970s rock group in Winnipeg, Manitoba, with guitarist-vocalist brother Randy, drummer brother Robbie and bassist-vocalist Fred Turner.

The band's second album, "Bachman-Turner Overdrive II," was released in December 1973 and became a big U.S. and Canadian hit, yielding two of BTO's best-known singles, "Let It Ride" and "Takin' Care of Business."
