Police, fire officials and the state bomb squad were called Monday to examine the small package that sat on a shelf in the City Hall office.
However, once the package's alarm went off, the bomb squad realized that there was a clock in the package, reported the Bridgeport (Conn.) Post Tuesday.
"It turned out it was a clock sent to an employee of the Building Department by a friend," said Bridgeport Police Department spokeswoman Sheila Santiago.
Police Lt. James Viadero explained the gift was no ordinary clock, but an elephant figurine with a clock in its stomach.
