Thom Yorke takes bizarre elevator ride in Radiohead's 'Lift' video

UPI News Service, 09/14/2017

Radiohead's new video for their 1996 song "Lift" features frontman Thom Yorke taking a lengthy ride on bizarre elevator.

The video directed by Oscar Hudson shows Yorke holding two grocery bags while trapped on a never-ending elevator ride as passengers shuffle in and out.

Families, strangers and businessmen file onto the elevator and quickly make their way out, paying no mind to a seemingly perplexed Yorke.

The mystical elevator then makes a sequence of unusual stops, offering a view into the homes of strangers before stopping in across from another elevator holding a Yorke imposter.

"Lift" is featured on OK Computer OKNOTOK 1997 2017, the band's 20th anniversary reissue of OK Computer, after being left off the original album.

"'Lift,' 'Man-o-War,' 'I Promise,' these were the songs that I think people at the label were looking at thinking, 'Yeah, there we go. That's gotta work,'" drummer Philip Selway said. "And we delivered an album that didn't have them on there, even though they'd been recorded. So I think probably, initially, we probably wrong-footed quite a few people."
