Fox is reportedly close to ordering new episodes of its popular sci-fi series "The X-Files."
"We hope so," Madden told reporters, according to Variety. "There are a lot of conversations going on. Those conversations are complex, but we hope to be able to announce something very shortly."
"The X-Files" originally had a nine-season run from 1993 to 2002, and was revived for a six-episode 10th season that premiered in January 2016.
Madden said a new season would hopefully have more than six episodes and return in 2018, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Madden had said at the TCA Summer Press Tour in August that the network was "working hard" and "would love to get another season out soon."
He was previously enthusiastic about continuing the revival in an interview with Variety.
"We said before it aired that we would love to do more, and we are over the moon with the performance. So far, the response has been really encouraging," Madden said.
"The X-Files" revival starred Duchovny and Anderson as Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, respectively.
It also featured a number of other original actors, including Mitch Pileggi, William B. Davis and Annabeth Gish.
