Fox has announced The X Factor judges Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, L.A. Reid, and Nicole Scherzinger will eliminate five of the competition's 17 remaining acts during Tuesday night's special live, 150-minute broadcast.

According to a network spokesperson, each of the four judges will have to decide which of the remaining acts in their assigned category will be among the three acts that will advance further in the competition.

Since last week's surprise twist left Cowell with an additional fifth act, he'll be required to eliminate two The X Factor acts from his "Girls Under 30" category group while Abdul, Reid and Scherzinger will each have to cut one act from their respective "Groups," "Boys Under 30" and "Over 30" four-act squads.

The X Factor's cross-category competition phase will then begin next week and feature the 12 remaining acts competing directly against each other for home viewer votes.

All 12 acts will perform live on Wednesday, November 2 at 8PM ET/PT, after which home viewers will vote and one act will be eliminated during The X Factor's first live results show on Thursday, November 3 at 8PM ET/PT.
