Williams, a Grammy Award winner and Academy Award nominee, has inked a contract with NBC to sit in one of the four big red chairs next season on the reality singing competition presumably as a replacement for original coach Cee Lo Green.

"It's been a huge year for Pharrell, with recognition for his contribution in the world of music -- the Despicable Me franchise soundtracks, his Oscar-nominated song 'Happy' and his Grammy-winning collaboration with Daft Punk on the breakout dance hit 'Get Lucky.' His dominance in record sales in 2014, coupled with his incomparable accomplishments in the world of fashion and design, make him an irresistible addition to The Voice family," NBC reality chief Paul Telegdy said in a statement.

Williams previously appeared on The Voice's fourth season as an adviser to "Team Usher."

"He has already made a considerable impact as a mentor, drawing on an impressive track record as both a producer and performer," Telegdy continued. "It is a perfect fit for The Voice as we evolve and reach for new heights with this franchise. It feels like we are welcoming an existing family member home."

Added The Voice executive producer Mark Burnett, "I am thrilled to have Pharrell come back to The Voice family, and this time... as a coach. Continuing in The Voice tradition of having the biggest and most current music stars as coaches, Pharrell fits perfectly."

According to the network, the identities of the three remaining coaches who will serve on The Voice's seventh season will be confirmed at a later date.

Thus far, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton have been the show's mainstay coaches. Original coach Christina Aguilera has been alternating recent seasons with Shakira, while Green had been taking turns with Usher. The Voice's currently-airing sixth seasons features Levine, Shelton, Shakira, and Usher.

Green prematurely announced his departure from The Voice in February 2014 after four seasons of starring on the show. As for Aguilera, she's newly engaged and now expecting a baby with fiance Matt Rutler.
