According to Deadline, the show will differ slightly from the Academy award winning Martin Scorsese film of the same name in that in will focus on a notorious Latino gang in Chicago in place of the Irish mob in Boston.

Like the film that starred Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon and Jack Nicholson, this new take will feature a young cop who infiltrates the gang undercover while the criminal organization also has their own man in the police department.

Described as being an hourlong series, "The Departed" is being written by "Detroit 1-8-7" creator Jason Richman with no production or release date window set.

The original film, which was based on Hong Kong thriller "Infernal Affairs," won four Oscars including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay and grossed $290 million at the box office.

"The Departed" is the second new series in development at Amazon who announced recently a 10-part spy drama, Tom Clancy's "Jack Ryan" that is set to star "The Office" alum John Krasinski.
