Authorities in Upstate New York said a homeowner who allegedly caught two teens trying to burglarize his garage may face marijuana-growing charges.

The Niagara County Sheriff's Office said the 43-year-old Wilson resident called 911 and told dispatchers he had cornered two teenagers attempting to steal from his garage, The Buffalo (N.Y.) News reported Monday.

The man told deputies he had been alerted to the attempted burglary by surveillance cameras set up to protect his marijuana plants. Deputies said they found 51 marijuana plants in the garage and notified the Niagara County Drug Task Force.

David Evans, 18, and a 16-year-old Lackawanna boy were arrested and charged with third-degree burglary and criminal mischief. Evans was jailed in lieu of $2,500 bail and the 16-year-old's bail was set at $5,000.
