T-shirts make political statement

UPI News Service, 11/02/2008

U.S. sales of politically inspired T-shirts reportedly have soared as print-on-demand technology lets anyone with a phrase put it on a shirt and sell it.

A mover and shaker in the political T-shirt business is CafePress.com, which claims more than 6 million people -- or "shopkeepers" -- now design T-shirts and other products, both political and non-political, and sell them through the CafePress Web site, the St. Petersburg (Fla.) Times reported Sunday.

CafePress prints items only when they are ordered and handles payment and mailing, with "shopkeepers" getting a cut for each sale, the St. Petersburg (Fla.) Times reported Sunday.

Recent T-shirt slogans have included "McCain: He had me at war hero" and "Obama: This time I want a smart president," reported the Times.

As of Oct. 25, CafePress reported 2.8 million products created at its site for Barack Obama, 1.6 million for John McCain, 800,000 for Sarah Palin and an estimated 400,000 products for Joe Biden.
