Archaeologist Torun Zachrisson and a group of Stockholm University students traveled to the area near Vaxholm in the Stockholm archipelago in an attempt to find a rune stone known as U 170, which he said has "been missing" for 300 years, The Local.se reported Friday.

The students found the stone, which was mostly buried in the ground, while preparing to return to the school.

Zachrisson said the stone was part of a larger stone that had previously been translated by a historian.

"Gunne and Asa had this stone and arch erected for Ond, their son. He died on Ekero. He is buried in the graveyard. Fastulv inscribed the runes. Gunne erected this stone slab," the stone reads.
