Scandinavia did well, with Oslo as runner-up. Copenhagen was 10th on the list.

Europe dominated the Top 10 with Munich in third place, Paris in fourth and Frankfurt fifth. France and Germany took the rest of the Top 10 with Stuttgart sixth, Lyons seventh, Dusseldorf eighth and Nantes ninth, The Local reported.

The list was put together by Matthew Kahn, an environmental economist from UCLA. He looked at factors like parks, environmental laws and waste disposal.

Mayor Kristina Axen Olin said she thinks Stockholm is also "the world's most beautiful city."

"I get happy every time I come back to Stockholm after being away. We probably don't realize what a unique environment we have," she told the newspaper Aftonbladet.

The magazine also ranked countries, and Scandinavia stood out there too. Finland headed the list, followed by Iceland, Norway and Sweden. Austria, Switzerland, Ireland, Australia, Uruguay and Denmark rounded out the top 10.
