The popular candy Mars Bar has a different life in Scotland as a deep-fried confection and is so well liked, it merits its own sales survey.

The survey outlined in the current issue of Lancet says a check of about 300 Scottish fish and chips shops shows 22 percent have been selling deep-fried Mars Bars for the past three years, about 23 bars a week. Some say they have sold as many as 200 bars in a week.
David Morrison, one of the survey leaders, said fish and chip shops also have been asked to fry chocolate, Snickers, ice cream and other sweets, plus pizza, bananas and pineapple rings.
