Students accused of forging parking passes

UPI News Service, 08/25/2011

Authorities in Minnesota said a pair of former students at a high school face charges for allegedly selling $1,500 worth of counterfeit parking passes.

Investigators said officials at Sibley High School in St. Paul discovered the counterfeit passes last winter and traced them to Andre Oliver and Nicholas Ritter, both 18, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported Wednesday.

Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom said Oliver and Ritter cost the school about $1,500 last year with the faux-passes and now face felony charges of aggravated forgery.

"These young men may have exercised a little entrepreneurial ingenuity, but I hope the lesson to be learned is that it's not OK to break the law," Backstrom said.

Backstrom said the teenagers could be eligible for a first-time offenders program that would wipe the offense from their records if they accept responsibility and abide by the court's punishment.

The Star Tribune said the suspects were not available for comment.
